The overview
About Tañon Strait Macro Dive Sites
Santander sits at the meeting point of the Tañon Strait and the Bohol Sea, giving local dive operators access to a cluster of muck and reef sites known for macro life rather than big drift walls. Sites such as Antina Point, Maria Elena, Santa Maria, and Luisan Shoal (also called Caseres Reef) are typically reached by short banca rides from dive resorts based in Barangay Looc. Antina Point, near Liloan, is a shallow site around 10-15 meters with mild-to-moderate current, hosting several nudibranch species, banded snake eels, and soapfish along its slope. Across the wider area, divers regularly find pygmy seahorses, frogfish, ghost pipefish, electric clams, cuttlefish, and octopus tucked into the reef and rubble, making this stretch a favorite for underwater photographers hunting critters rather than pelagics. Because the strait itself is a recognized protected seascape and migratory corridor for whales, dolphins, and whale sharks, occasional passing encounters with larger marine life are possible, though the sites are primarily valued for their consistent macro sightings.
