Archdiocesan Museum of Cebu
About Archdiocesan Museum of Cebu
The Archdiocesan Museum of Cebu preserves the ecclesiastical heritage of the Archdiocese of Cebu, the oldest Catholic diocese in the Philippines. Housed in a colonial-era building on P. Burgos Street near the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, the museum displays vestments, liturgical vessels, santos (religious statues), old church documents, and portraits of Cebu's bishops spanning more than four centuries of Catholic history in the region. Exhibits trace the evolution of the Church in Cebu from the earliest Augustinian missions through the American and modern periods, offering context that complements a visit to the Cathedral, Basilica del Santo Niño, and other religious sites downtown. Many of the artifacts come directly from parish sacristies and archdiocesan collections rather than reproductions. Being a small, specialized museum, it draws fewer crowds than Cebu's more famous religious landmarks, making it a quieter stop for visitors specifically interested in Catholic art, vestments, and Church history in the Visayas.
