The overview
About Bagatayam Falls
Bagatayam Falls is a roadside waterfall in Barangay Bagatayam, only about 50 meters from one of Sogod's main roads, dropping around 5 meters into a natural pool fed by Binaliw Spring further upstream. Its easy access has made it a longtime gathering spot for local picnickers and a regular laundry and bathing spot for residents of the barangay. The falls carry more history than their modest size suggests. In 1920, an American engineer known locally as Engr. Crook developed the site, building a rice and corn mill and later a hydroelectric plant that used the falls' flow to power turbines, lighting Barangay Bagatayam and neighboring areas by around 1950. Today the water still serves a practical role as the main source for the Sogod Waterworks System. Because it sits so close to the highway, Bagatayam Falls works well as a quick stop rather than a planned excursion, and it is often combined with a walk up to Binaliw Spring, its source a short distance uphill.
