The overview
About Balay'g Sawa Falls
Balay'g Sawa Falls sits in the wooded hills of Sitio Calin-ay in Barangay Poblacion, Samboan. The name translates roughly to "home of the python" in Cebuano, a reference to old local lore about the site rather than any current wildlife encounter. The falls are compact but drop into a surprisingly wide lagoon with clear, deep-blue water framed by rock walls and overhanging greenery. A short trail of 5 to 10 minutes connects the access point to the falls, mixing a steep uphill approach with an equally steep descent on mostly concrete steps; the municipality has since installed makeshift railings along the steepest sections. The main pool is deep enough for jumping and diving from the surrounding rocks, which offer natural grip for climbing between the smaller upstream cascades. A separate deep pocket above the main falls is popular for floating and quiet swimming away from the main crowd. Balay'g Sawa is one of several waterfalls clustered around Samboan's interior, alongside the better-known Aguinid Falls, and makes a good pairing with a full day of falls-hopping in the area.
