The overview
About Carcar City Museum
The Carcar City Museum occupies the former Carcar Dispensary and Puericulture Center, an American-era building constructed between 1929 and 1937 at the Carcar Town Plaza along Santa Catalina Street. The structure served as the town's health clinic for decades before it was restored and inaugurated as a museum on July 8, 2008, coinciding with Carcar's first anniversary as a city. It holds the distinction of being the first museum established by a local government unit in southern Cebu. Inside, the museum is organized into two main galleries. Kaagi, on the ground floor, houses historical artifacts and memorabilia dating back to the 19th century, tracing Carcar's Spanish colonial past, its trade history, and the lives of its prominent families. Arte, the second gallery, showcases paintings, sculpture, and other works highlighting the artistic output of Carcaranon creators. The building itself, with its restored American colonial-period architecture, is worth viewing alongside the exhibits. It sits within the same plaza complex as Carcar's other heritage landmarks, making it an easy stop on a walking tour of the town center.
