The overview
About Casa Gorordo Museum
Casa Gorordo Museum is a 19th-century ancestral house in Cebu's historic Parian district, once home to Juan Isidro Gorordo, a Spanish-Filipino merchant, and later his son Juan Gorordo, the first Filipino bishop of Cebu. Built around 1850 and expanded over the decades, the two-story house combines a coral-stone ground floor with a wooden upper level, a common bahay-na-bato style among Cebu's principalia families. Four generations of the Gorordo family lived here until 1979, when the property passed to the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation for preservation as a heritage museum. The interior is furnished with period pieces: capiz-shell windows, antique furniture, family portraits, a chapel room, and a kitchen area with traditional cookware, giving a detailed picture of upper-class Filipino domestic life under Spanish and early American rule. The Foundation runs regular tours and periodic cultural events on the grounds. Casa Gorordo anchors a cluster of heritage sites in Parian, within walking distance of the Jesuit House and Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House, making it a natural stop on a downtown heritage walk.
