The overview
About Cebu International Convention Center (CICC)
The Cebu International Convention Center is a purpose-built convention venue in Mandaue's North Reclamation Area, constructed for the Philippines' hosting of the 12th ASEAN Summit and 2nd East Asia Summit in January 2007. The three-story, 28,000-square-meter building on 3.8 hectares was completed in a matter of months to receive heads of state from across Southeast Asia and East Asia, and its inauguration marked one of the largest diplomatic gatherings ever held in Cebu. The center has been closed to the public since October 2013, after suffering structural damage in the Bohol earthquake that year, with subsequent typhoons (Yolanda in 2013 and Odette in 2021) worsening the deterioration. Mandaue City government reacquired the property in 2018 and has floated a public-private rehabilitation, but as of this writing no construction timeline exists. The grounds are currently used as an informal fire-evacuation site. For visitors, the CICC today is a photo stop and a piece of recent Cebu history rather than an active venue — the building can be viewed and photographed from outside its perimeter, but there is no public access to the interior.
