About Kabutongan Falls

Kabutongan Falls, also called Looc Falls, is a four-level waterfall tucked in the forest of Barangay Looc along Malabuyoc's western coast. The main cascade drops into a deep, aquamarine pool enclosed by stone walls, and a small cavern sits behind the falls that locals say connects to further underground water, though only a few have explored it. Reaching the falls requires an upstream river trek of about 45 minutes to an hour from the trailhead at San Isidro Chapel, wading through waist-deep water and navigating slippery rocks and smaller cascades along the way. The trek and the falls themselves are popular for canyoneering and cliff jumping. Because of the river crossings and scrambling involved, Kabutongan is considered a more demanding destination than most Cebu waterfalls and is not recommended for beginners or young children. A local guide and a rented life vest make the trip considerably safer.
