The overview
About Marigondon Cave
Marigondon Cave is a well-known technical dive site off the Mactan coastline near Marigondon and Punta Engaño, reachable in about ten minutes by boat from dive centers based along the Mactan resort strip. Despite the name, it is really a cavern rather than a true cave — ambient light from the entrance is visible from anywhere inside — but it still demands advanced skills because the opening lies below 30 meters, with the cavern floor around 37-40 meters and the diameter of the chamber roughly 10 meters across a 40-meter passage. Inside, divers can find flashlight fish glowing in the darker recesses along with cup corals and sponges. Exiting the cavern, the dive typically continues along an adjacent wall thick with gorgonians, sea fans, and reef fish before the site drops off sharply toward much deeper water offshore. Because of the depth and the strong to very strong currents that can run along the outer wall, this site is restricted to certified advanced or deep divers and is always done with a local dive guide.
