The overview

About Montañeza Falls

Montañeza Falls is a multi-drop waterfall system on the Montañeza River in Barangay Montañeza, Malabuyoc, close to Mainit Hot Spring. The system is made up of around seven drops of varying heights cut through a narrow forested ravine, with the tallest cascade measuring roughly 30 meters. Lush tropical vegetation lines the hills around the falls, keeping the area cool and largely undeveloped. The falls are best known as a canyoneering site. The rock holes, narrow chutes, and small drops along the river make it possible to rappel down each of the seven cascades, slide through natural rock slides, and jump into pools along the way. The tour culminates in a descent of the tallest drop, a roughly 30-meter waterfall with an overhang. Montañeza Falls sees far fewer visitors than Cebu's better-known waterfalls, so trails are less maintained and facilities are minimal. A local guide is strongly recommended for the canyoneering route, both for navigation and for safety on the rappels.
