National Museum of the Philippines – Cebu
About National Museum of the Philippines – Cebu
The National Museum of the Philippines - Cebu opened to the public in August 2023, housed in the century-old Aduana (customs house) building near Plaza Independencia and Fort San Pedro. Designed by American architect William Parsons and completed in 1910, the building itself is a heritage structure, restored and repurposed by the National Museum. Inside, exhibits cover the natural history, archaeology, and cultural heritage of Cebu and the wider Visayas, including artifacts from pre-colonial trade, the Spanish and American colonial periods, and Cebu's role in maritime and mercantile history. Galleries are arranged across multiple floors, with rotating temporary exhibits supplementing the permanent collection. As a national institution, admission is free, and the museum sits within easy walking distance of Fort San Pedro, Plaza Independencia, and the piers, making it a convenient anchor for a downtown heritage itinerary along Cebu's historic waterfront district.
