The overview
About Talisay Liberation Park / WWII Landing Shrine
Talisay Liberation Park sits in Barangay Poblacion, near Talisay City's old municipal hall, marking the beach where Allied forces landed on March 26, 1945 to begin the liberation of Cebu from Japanese occupation. At 8:28 a.m. that day, after an hour-long naval bombardment, the U.S. Army's 182nd and 132nd Infantry Regiments came ashore on the west and east sides of the point, a turning point in the province's WWII history. The park has been declared a national historical shrine and features seven larger-than-life statues depicting Filipino and American soldiers, commemorating those who fought and died in the campaign. Plaques and markers around the grounds recount the timeline of the landing and the push to retake Cebu City that followed. Every March 26, the city holds 'Takas sa Talisay' (Landing in Talisay), a reenactment and commemoration attended by local officials, the military, war veterans, and at times representatives from the American and Japanese governments. Outside the anniversary, the park serves as a quiet waterfront civic space for residents.
