About Bamboo Forest

The Bamboo Forest is a man-made bamboo grove in Barangay Luy-a, Medellin, in northern Cebu. The bamboo was originally planted years ago by farmers connected to the Bogo-Medellin Milling Company (BOMEDCO) to help stabilize soil around banana and sugarcane plots. The grove matured into a dense, shaded stand of tall bamboo, and the private landowner opened it to visitors in August 2020, turning it into one of northern Cebu's fastest-growing tourist stops. Inside, a network of dirt and boardwalk paths winds through the bamboo stalks, with several themed corners for photos: a Japanese-style area with a padlock "love wall," a prayer garden, and a small Disney-themed set-up. Costume rentals are available on-site for those who want souvenir photos in the grove. Cottages, food stalls, and rest areas are scattered around the property for visitors who want to linger. The overall feel is quiet and cool compared to the open sugarcane country surrounding it, since the tall bamboo blocks direct sun and creates a natural corridor. It draws comparisons to bamboo groves in Japan and Korea and is usually visited as a short stop alongside other northern Cebu destinations like Bantayan or Malapascua.
