Nug-as Forest

About Nug-as Forest
Nug-as Forest is one of the last remaining old-growth forests in Cebu, a precious patch of primary forest that has survived centuries of deforestation. Located in the highlands of Alcoy, this 40-hectare forest reserve is home to centuries-old trees, diverse wildlife, and endemic species found nowhere else on Earth. The forest contains giant almaciga, molave, and other native hardwood trees, some estimated to be over 500 years old. The dense canopy creates a cool, misty environment that supports a rich ecosystem including rare birds, butterflies, and other fauna. The forest has been a focus of conservation efforts and scientific research due to its ecological significance. Visiting Nug-as Forest offers a rare glimpse into what Cebu's forests looked like before widespread logging. Guided tours are available through the local community, who serve as forest guardians. The trek through the forest involves some uphill walking but rewards visitors with encounters with ancient trees and the peaceful atmosphere of undisturbed nature.
