About Cawit Beach

Cawit Beach is the main public beach of Pilar municipality, fronting Barangay Cawit on the western shore of Ponson Island in the Camotes group. The beach is a stretch of natural white sand beside the barangay's boat landing, where inter-island pumpboats and the occasional ferry from Poro or Ormoc dock alongside local outrigger bancas. The shoreline stays largely undeveloped; the two small resorts nearby, Cawit Resort and Cafe and Moabog Reef and Resort, were the first tourist accommodations built in Pilar and offer basic rooms, a restaurant, and bicycle rentals, but most of the beach remains open and is used by residents for daily life. The shallow, calm water suits swimming, and the beach is a common overnight stop for travelers who want to camp near the wharf. Because Pilar sees far fewer visitors than the other Camotes towns, Cawit Beach tends to stay quiet even during peak months, and the sunset over the Camotes Sea from the wharf end of the beach is one of the better free views in the municipality.
