The overview
About Ili Rock
Ili Rock is a white limestone outcrop rising directly above Boljoon's poblacion, facing the coastal road at the heart of town. Following the 2013 magnitude-7.2 earthquake that struck Cebu and Bohol, sections of the cliff loosened and collapsed, prompting the Department of Public Works and Highways to build a stairway and viewing deck partly to stabilize the slope against further landslides. A concrete stairway of roughly 136 steps climbs the cliff face to two viewing levels. From the top, the deck opens onto the rooftops of the poblacion, the turquoise waters of the Bohol Strait, and, on clear days, the distant outlines of Bohol and Siquijor across the water. The deck itself is fully exposed, with no trees or shade structures, so the climb and the view are best tackled outside the midday heat. It has become one of the most recognizable vantage points in Cebu's south, often cited as the town's signature photo spot.
