The overview
About Nug-as Sea of Clouds
The Sea of Clouds is a cloud inversion that forms over the valley below Barangay Nug-as, the largest and highest barangay of Alcoy, on mornings when temperature and humidity align. From vantage points such as Farmers' View Park and the slopes of Mt. Campetra inside the Nug-as Forest Reserve, a thick blanket of fog settles over the lowlands at dawn, leaving only the surrounding ridgelines and treetops visible above it. Nug-as sits at over 600 meters elevation and holds one of the last remaining stands of old-growth forest on Cebu Island, cool enough that locals call it the 'Little Baguio of Alcoy.' The same forest reserve is habitat for the Cebu flowerpecker and other endemic birds, including the Siloy, and protects the trailheads used to reach the viewing points. The phenomenon is weather-dependent and does not appear every day, so more than one attempt may be needed. Some visitors camp overnight near the viewpoint to be in position before sunrise rather than making the early drive up from the coast in the dark.
