About Lagnason Creek

Lagnason Creek, in Barangay Malones, is known as the roosting site of a large flying-fox (fruit bat) colony. Reports describe it as the only place in Cebu where several large flying fox species roost together, including two of the world's largest flying fox species. The surrounding forest is also habitat for the endemic Cebu black shama (siloy). The creek is explored via an extreme river trek, typically starting near the Cawayan-Sumbria bridge, crossing large boulders and riverbanks. Visitors come mainly to observe the bat colony roosting in the trees overhead, and with patience may also spot or hear the Cebu black shama in the surrounding forest patches. This is a wildlife and adventure site rather than a developed tourist spot. The river trek is physically demanding, with stretches of thorny vegetation and slippery rocks, so it's best attempted with an experienced local guide.
