Pilar Wharf Sunset View
Pilar's public port on Ponson Island, a low-key spot for sunset over the Camotes Sea.
The overview
About Pilar Wharf Sunset View
The wharf at Pilar's poblacion is the main port for Ponson Island, where inter-island ferries, pumpboats, and cargo boats connect the town to Poro, Tudela, and Ormoc City. Beyond its role as a transport hub, the wharf faces west across the Camotes Sea and is one of the spots locals point to when talk turns to Pilar's sunsets. In the late afternoon, fishing boats returning to the pier and the everyday activity of the port add a working, unpolished backdrop to the view, a contrast to the more manicured sunset spots on Cebu's mainland coast. Low tide in the late afternoon often exposes a wide stretch of shallow flats near the pier, which locals and the occasional visitor use for a walk toward the water as the sun goes down. There's no viewing deck or paid area here. It's simply the public wharf, best treated as a free, low-key stop to end a day trip around Cawit and the rest of Pilar before catching a return boat.
What makes it worth it

- Free, uncrowded public viewpoint
- Walking distance from Cawit's beach resorts
- Good end point for a Pilar day trip
