Punta Engaño Public Beach runs along the tip of Mactan Island near the cluster of international resorts, but unlike its white-sand neighbors it's a natural, rougher shoreline of rocks and sand with patches of green vegetation growing over the rock formations. It's one of the few free, unguarded stretches of shore left in this heavily developed corner of the island. The barangay itself carries historical weight: Punta Engaño is where Ferdinand Magellan was killed in battle against Lapu-Lapu's forces in 1521, an event marked nearby and reenacted annually during the Kadaugan sa Mactan festivities in April. There's no entrance fee and no facilities, so it functions more as a place to walk the shoreline, watch the water, and take in the coastline near the historic site rather than a full beach-resort day out.
