The overview

About San Roque Parish Church

San Roque de Montpellier Parish, commonly called Asturias Church, is the town's historic centerpiece in Barangay Poblacion, dedicated to St. Roch of Montpellier, patron saint of the sick. It was erected as a parish by diocesan decree in 1885, having previously been under the mother parishes of Balamban and Tuburan, and the present structure was completed during the Commonwealth era. The facade has a distinctive quadrilateral bell tower flanked by twin fluted Doric columns, an arched main entrance topped by a rose window, and a flat roof with decorative parapets, all in a Baroque style typical of Cebu's older Spanish-era parishes. Inside, the ceiling has a triangular ribbed design. The parish celebrates its feast day on August 16 with the Lalin Festival, and holds regular Sunday and Thursday Masses. It sits close to the town's municipal hall and the Asturias Baywalk, making it easy to combine in a short walk through the town center.
