About San Miguel Arcangel Parish Church
San Miguel Arcangel Parish Church, commonly known as Argao Church, is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved Spanish colonial churches in Cebu. Built in 1788 by the Augustinian friars, this baroque-style church showcases exquisite architectural details that have survived centuries of use and natural disasters. The church's facade is particularly noteworthy, featuring intricate carvings and reliefs depicting various religious scenes and symbols. The interior houses a stunning retablo (altar piece) with gilded decorations, religious paintings, and santos (religious statues) dating back to the Spanish colonial period. The ceiling features beautiful painted murals that add to the church's grandeur. Adjacent to the church is a centuries-old convent and a bell tower that offers panoramic views of Argao town. The church complex also includes the Archdiocesan Shrine of Nuestra Señora de la Luz. San Miguel Arcangel Church was declared a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum of the Philippines, recognizing its historical and architectural significance.
