Silmugi River Park
Borbon's namesake river, prized for its emerald waters, mangrove banks, and kayak trips near the town center.
The overview
About Silmugi River Park
Silmugi River Park is Borbon's signature natural attraction, built around the town's only river, which winds about 12 kilometers from mountain sources near the town center down to the sea. The river is known locally for its striking emerald-green water, and its lower stretch near the public market is bordered by mangroves and moored fishing boats, giving it a quiet, working-river character rather than a manicured tourist park. Visitors come mainly to paddle the river by rented kayak, gliding past mangrove stands and spotting herons, kingfishers, and other waterside wildlife along the banks. A boardwalk with a footbridge and jetty was built at one point to formalize the park, though that development stalled and the site today is best treated as a simple, low-key river outing rather than a fully resort-style facility. The river also anchors Borbon's identity, giving its name to the Silmugi Festival held every January 20 alongside the town fiesta for San Sebastian. Local folklore ties the river to tales of a phantom ship, adding a layer of storytelling to what is otherwise a peaceful paddle.
