How Do You Get From Cebu to Siquijor?

Skip the direct Cebu City-Siquijor boat and cross from the south instead. OceanJet does run a direct fastcraft from Cebu City to Siquijor with a stop in Tagbilaran, Bohol, but it takes around 4 hours and costs roughly ₱2,000-2,400 tourist class (US$34-41) or about ₱3,800 (US$66) business class. From Sibulan, or the short tricycle ride into Dumaguete proper, a second boat gets you to Siquijor. OceanJet’s fastcraft takes about 40 minutes for roughly ₱455-754 (US$7.85-13). Montenegro Lines runs a slower roll-on/roll-off ferry, about 1.5 hours, for around ₱130 (US$2.25), and it’s the option to use if you’re bringing a rental vehicle across. Both operators run several trips a day, but the last useful departure is usually mid-afternoon, so don’t plan to cross late.

Day-by-Day: A 7-Day Cebu + Siquijor Route

Day 1 — Arrive Cebu, head straight to Oslob. Land at Mactan-Cebu International Airport and continue south along the coastal highway (via Carcar, Argao, and Dalaguete) to Oslob, about 3 hours by van. Check in, have dinner near the whale shark viewing area so you’re close for an early start.

Day 4 — Cross to Siquijor. Backtrack roughly 1-1.5 hours to Liloan Port in Santander for the ferry to Sibulan, then connect onward to Siquijor. Day 5 — Siquijor’s south and east: Cambugahay, Salagdoong, and the Balete Tree. Is This Route Worth It Over Flying Direct to Siquijor?

Yes, if South Cebu is already on your itinerary — otherwise flying via Dumaguete or Cebu City may be simpler. There’s no airport on Siquijor, so every route into the island involves a boat from either Cebu, Bohol, or Negros. If you’re already planning to see Oslob and Moalboal, the Liloan-Sibulan crossing adds Siquijor to the trip for a couple of short, cheap ferry rides rather than a separate flight and hotel stay. You’ll cross open water twice on small-to-mid-size ferries, and both Liloan Port and the Sibulan/Dumaguete piers involve some walking between the terminal and the boat. A single backpack or a soft duffel is far easier than a hard-shell suitcase once you’re loading and unloading at four different piers over the week.

Cash matters more than in Cebu City. Oslob, Moalboal, and especially Siquijor have far fewer ATMs than Cebu’s urban core, and the machines that exist can run dry on weekends and around payday (the 15th and end of month). Coastal towns like San Juan, Larena, and Siquijor town have reliable Globe and Smart coverage, but signal thins out on the roads between waterfalls and beaches. This route rewards travelers who don’t mind a few hours of ferries and van rides in exchange for skipping flights and layovers. The Liloan-Sibulan-Siquijor crossing is genuinely one of the more scenic, low-hassle inter-island hops in the Visayas — small boats, short rides, and none of the queueing you get at bigger ports like Cebu City’s pier. The trade-off is that it only makes sense if South Cebu is already part of your plan; tacking it onto a Cebu City-only trip means a lot of driving for a short payoff. Whale shark viewing in Oslob remains ethically debated among divers and marine biologists because the sharks are provisioned with food to keep them near the boats — go in with realistic expectations and follow the no-touch, no-flash-photography rules strictly.
