About Capelinha de Fatima Replica

The Capelinha de Fatima Replica is a pilgrimage chapel in Barangay Tacup-Lambusan, San Remigio, built as a faithful reproduction of the small chapel at the Cova da Iria in Fatima, Portugal, where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to three shepherd children in 1917. Constructed by the Archdiocese of Cebu starting in late 2020 as part of the 500 Years of Christianity in the Philippines commemoration, it was blessed and consecrated by Archbishop Jose Palma on April 4, 2022, drawing thousands of devotees to its opening. It is recognized as the fourth replica of the original chapel built worldwide, after the United States, Brazil, and Puerto Rico, and the first in Asia. The roughly PHP 35-million project, funded jointly by the archdiocese and devotees, sits on Tinubdan Hills and includes the chapel itself, a Stations of the Cross walk, an image of Portugal's Angel of Peace, a rosary garden, and a gazebo. The elevated site also offers views over the surrounding countryside toward the coast, and has drawn visitors for sunrise viewing as well as devotion. The shrine functions as an active place of worship dedicated to spreading devotion to Our Lady of Fatima, with Masses held on-site alongside pilgrim visits.
