Divine Mercy Shrine
About Divine Mercy Shrine
The Divine Mercy Shrine rises on a hill in Barangay Garing, Consolacion, on Cebu's northern coast. Its centerpiece is a towering statue of Jesus Christ as the Divine Mercy, arms outstretched, modeled on the image described in the diary of St. Faustina Kowalska and designed with input from architect Felino Palafox. Construction of the statue began in 2020 and the shrine has been developed in phases since, drawing pilgrims and visitors even while parts of the complex are still being finished. From its hilltop position roughly 800 feet above sea level, the shrine looks out over Consolacion, the Mactan Channel, and on clear days the coastline toward Mactan-Cebu International Airport. The grounds include the Stairway to Heaven approach, the Pilgrim Center, the St. Faustina Prayer Grounds, and a Rosary Garden, with further features such as an elevator and viewing deck built into the statue itself planned as later construction phases are completed. The shrine functions as an active pilgrimage site, hosting individual visitors as well as parish and diocesan group pilgrimages centered on the Divine Mercy devotion.
