About Headless Virgin Shrine

The Headless Virgin Shrine sits inside a cave-like rock formation along the shoreline of Barangay Salag, Tabogon, where a statue of the Virgin Mary missing its head has become the center of local devotion. According to the story told by residents, Moro seafarers once stole the head from the statue; when locals later tried to fix or move it, the figure reportedly became too heavy to lift, which they took as a sign to leave it as it was and build a shrine and altar around it instead. The shrine is reached by trekking through fields and along the coast from the nearest road, ending at a small chapel and altar tucked among boulders that face the open sea. Devotees visit to pray in a setting that feels remote and quiet, with the ocean and visible coral reefs just beyond the rocks. The site remains an active place of worship rather than a purely touristic stop, so it draws both pilgrims and travelers curious about the legend.
