The overview

About Kandungaw Peak

Kandungaw Peak, at nearly 900 meters above sea level, is the tallest peak within Dalaguete itself, in Barangay Maloray near Mantalongon. It shares the same highland ridge system as Osmeña and Casino peaks. Its name comes from a natural rock formation near the summit that resembles an eye. The climb is short but steep, taking about 30-45 minutes. A paved staircase near the start gives way to a natural ridge trail leading past several named viewpoints, sometimes called Titanic Peak, Sunset Peak, and Lovers Peak, with sheer drop-offs on one side. A small cave sits near the summit. Views take in Badian Island, Osmeña Peak, and Casino Peak. Kandungaw Peak is quieter and less developed than Osmeña Peak, drawing hikers who want more scrambling and fewer crowds. Because the jump-offs are close together, it's commonly combined with Osmeña and Casino peaks in a single day of peak-hopping.

What makes it worth it

  • Rock formation resembling an eye near the summit
  • Steep ridge trail with several named viewpoints
  • Small cave near the summit

Tips for visitors
  1. 1 The initial staircase is steep, so pace yourself, and wear shoes with good grip for the natural trail sections further up.
