About Santiago Bay Beach

Santiago Bay Beach is the signature beach of San Francisco town and one of the most photographed spots in the Camotes Islands. It runs for several hundred meters of powder-white sand along the southern shore of Pacijan Island, backed by coconut palms and a scattering of beachfront resorts and cottages. The beach is unusually shallow: at low tide the water barely reaches ankle-deep for a hundred meters or more from shore, exposing a wide stretch of pale sand under a thin sheet of turquoise water. High tide submerges most of that sandbar and is the better time to actually swim, since the water stays calm and gentle even then. Jet skis, kayaks, and other rentals are available from the resorts lining the beach. Because it shelves so gradually, Santiago Bay is considered one of the safer swimming beaches on the island for children, though the tide schedule is worth checking before a visit if swimming, rather than walking the sandbar, is the goal.

What makes it worth it

Highlights

  • Hundreds of meters of white sand
  • Wide shallow sandbar at low tide
  • Gentle, kid-friendly swimming
  • Beachfront resorts and cottages
  • Jet ski and kayak rentals
  • Camotes' most photographed beach
Tips for visitors
  1. 1 Check the tide schedule since low tide leaves only ankle-deep water for swimming. Bring reef-safe sunscreen and a hat, as shade is limited on the open sandbar. Weekends and holidays draw day-trip crowds from other parts of Camotes. Location approximate — confirm on arrival.
