The overview
About Balidbid Lagoon
Balidbid Lagoon is a saltwater lagoon on the eastern coastline of Bantayan Island in Barangay Balidbid, about 15 minutes by road from Santa Fe town proper. An ocean inlet winds inland through mangroves to form a channel of calm, clear saltwater bordered by glistening white sandbanks, giving it a look distinct from the island's open beaches. The main activity is wading or floating along the lagoon's gentle current between the sandbanks, with the mangrove-lined banks offering shade and a quieter, more sheltered alternative to swimming in open sea. It's often paired with Virgin Island and Hilantagaan Island on the same island-hopping run out of Santa Fe. Since 2023 the lagoon has been under stricter protection as a marine protected area, and engine-powered boats are no longer allowed to enter it directly, so tour operators typically drop visitors nearby to walk or wade in. Facilities are minimal, so this is a nature stop rather than a resort-style beach.
