Malubog Lake

The overview
About Malubog Lake
Malubog Lake formed after a holding dam was built in 1968 in what was then Barangay Malubog, now Barangay General Climaco, to supply water for the Atlas copper mine's operations. The dam holds roughly 15 million cubic meters of water, and the resulting lake sits in a highland setting ringed by rolling hills, giving it a noticeably cooler climate than the Cebu coast. Atlas Mining and the local Department of Agriculture stocked the lake with milkfish, carp, and tilapia, which residents now fish and harvest commercially. Visitors come for lakeside picnics, boat rides, and fishing, and many pair the trip with a short hike up nearby Tagaytay Hills for a panoramic view over the water and surrounding countryside. Because it began as industrial infrastructure rather than a natural lake, Malubog keeps a working, low-key character, closer to a rural highland reservoir than a resort, which is part of its appeal for visitors looking to get away from Cebu's coastal crowds.
